the grocery store, sugar cookies, seeding the lawn & a last minute trip to the doctor...seriously i have been to more doctors in the last 6 months than i'd like to admit to, but today i think i saw some light at the end of this tunnel! phew.
between the lady & i we have been to 2 specialists, a family doctor, urgent care & our pediatrician's office more times than i can count...and if i include scoobs...we can throw in the ER as well.
try not to be jealous.
my most recent visit was concerning the lady. she is approaching 6 months & today she weighed in at a whopping 11lbs, 10 oz. she still wears 0-3 month clothes & she has yet to double her birth weight. in conjunction with her pixie size, her demeanor is well...fussy.
it is so hard to know what to do. part of me thinks, "don't worry." the other part screams, "have her looked at."
today she pushed herself into the doctor's office by continually tugging on her right ear {which she just finished antibiotics for} & i also wanted to follow-up with the doctor concerning the medicine she was on for acid reflux {there has been no change}.
upon my arrival i realized i was not going to be seeing my normal pediatrician. i was bummed. i wanted to follow up with her since she was the one that had prescribed the acid reflux medicine. but she was already double booked...so that was a no go.
so in walks the new doctor. he has a seat & his first statement is, "tell me about the lady."
i had so much to say & it all quickly came tumbling out...kinda like word vomit.
she's fussy. and i can't always attribute it to something. she weighs about nothing. she's a good eater. she's tugging on her ear. does she even have acid reflux? she's a bad napper. she arches her back & seems uncomfortable. she doesn't spit up a lot. on and on i went.
am i sounding like a crazy lady???
and you know what happened. he listened.
so so so refreshing.
and then he looked her over...thoroughly. then he told her she was cute & kissed the top of her head. then he told me i was right. she needed to be gaining more weight. and then he gave me an action plan and told me to see him again next week. if there is still no change we are going to go to the next step. he is going to pursue what needs to be pursued & rule out what needs to be ruled out {i don't even know what that is}
but i do know i am so glad my 'normal' pediatrician {who might now be my 'old' pediatrician} was double booked today. she just threw me a prescription & looked at me like i should know that babies cry & the weight thing? well...she basically told me to look in the mirror. {little did she know i was a 10 pound baby} you know what? i wanted to scream at her that day. really. i bit my tongue. hard.
i know babies cry. i know they don't always nap well. i know that they can be difficult. but i also know my baby. and something seems off & whether i am right or not, it is my responsibility to at least find out.
and man oh man...this new doctor. he's my hero today.
and for the record. i hope my instincts are off.

ug, why is it so hard to find a good doctor? I hate it when they make me feel incompetent and wish I could spit out what I'm really thinking...
good luck
Wow, I'm so sorry you've been having such a hard time. I will say that a lot of things you listed sound a lot like how Danica was for the first bit of life. I talked to my mom about it and she said it sounded a lot like she was allergic to dairy. So, I went off dairy completely and it made a world of difference. Obviously everyone is different and there isn't some miracle solution... Just thought I'd throw that one into the ring. :) I've been off dairy for about seven and a half months now. Boy, do I miss ice cream, but it sure is nice to have a happier baby.
Hope the new doc helps you figure out what deal is and you guys can have a happier next six months.
sounds identical to my baby...only he has gained tons of weight! He has been on zantac for reflux but is still having issues as well. Carolyne had reflux too, but didnt seem to be as bad as this little guy. I quit giving him his meds and he became a horrendous baby....so we put him back on. he never napped or slept for more than 25 minutes during the day and 45 minutes at a time at night and just screamed cosntantly.with him on a higher does now, he will now sleep for an hour! what meds is she on? Did they tell you to try no dairy?
Oh I am sorry, but glad you did go to the other pediatrician. I hope you can figure things out and that she gets happier and gains more!
