Home Again!

It was a trip of firsts:

first road trip (12 hours!)
first bout with pink eye
first TOOTH!
first cold
first motorcycle ride
first babysitter
first Swedish Fish (thanks to Kevin...more on that later)
first airplane ride

Zack was a trooper through it all & we had such a blast. It seemed the whole trip was deju vu of my own childhood. It brought back so many funny memories & it seemed my mom, sister & I were reliving the past with our own kids. The first stop on the way up to Salt Lake was the McDonald's in Flagstaff.

Growing up we always stopped here. We were having a good laugh through our breakfast because my mom used to always let my older brother, Ryan, get 2 hashbrowns, while I was only allowed one. Why? I don't know...probably because my mom found it funny that it bugged me so bad. After we started laughing about it...I had to go buy my very own hashbrown! delicious!

Here is Zack enjoying the rest of the ride to Utah...traveling in style watching Baby Einstein! Oh they joys of technology!
Our first stop was in Salt Lake where we stayed for one night before heading up to the family cabin in Bear Lake. We have been going to Bear Lake since and can remember & it was so fun to take Zack there, as well as, my other nieces & nephew. The four oldest nieces all slept in the upstairs loft where I used to sleep when I was little. My sister & sister-in-law allowed them the full Bear Lake experience which includes not going to sleep, jumping from bed to bed & laughing all night. It was fun to see them enjoy all the same things we did as kids!

By far, our favorite pastime at "The Bear," as we like to refer to it, is motorcycle rides. I took Zack out on my grandpa's 4-wheeler..."Big Red." I did this before Scot was there & could tell me no...I don't think he was too keen on the idea! However, there was definitely sentimental value! My grandpa was & is the heart & soul of Bear Lake & I remember countless rides with him on Big Red. So we busted it out of the shed & did a ride to the resevoir. Surprisingly enough, Zack seemed to enjoy his accomodations & fell asleep!
Once the boys arrived for the weekend...the serious rides began. It was a blast! Kevin taught me how to ride his bike & I puttered around on that for a bit, but spent most my time on 4-wheelers...and other than Scot laying Kev's bike down...there were no accidents. We were all laughing at Scot because the bike slipped out from under him on a corner I think everyone has biffed it on...I guess that is what you get for riding a bike that is too small for you! :)

Me & Kev up top (he's as tall as me these days!)
My Dad on his bike
And me & Scot...just a little dirty!

Growing up we always frequented the Old Rock Store, where we would fill up our motorcycles with gas & visit the penny counter full of candy. One of our favorites was always Swedish Fish. The Old Rock Store has since been turned into a bed & breakfast, so we've had to provide our own fish & thanks to Kevin, Zack had his first taste. He really didn't know what to think, but was glad to partake in the tradition!

Other Bear Lake Happenings...
A trip to La Beau's for a famous raspberry shake!
and some super cute tutu pictures of the girls...

After our week in Bear Lake we headed back down to Salt Lake for my cousin's wedding. Scot dropped Zack and I off & had to head back home...but Zack and I were very well taken care of at a 4-Star Resort aka my Aunt Alice's. She lives up in the valley of Little Cottonwood Canyon & it is beautiful! Here are my mom & Zack hanging out on the patio enjoying the cool weather!

After all the Bear Lake, wedding & family fun...we finally have made it back home & are in a packing frenzy! One more day & Scot's mom will be here to help with Zack & then we head to a resort for the 4th and then to Newport for a wedding this weekend! sigh...gotta remember to breath through all the fun!!!

Wo, that is a little much Amy! But it looks like you had fun and did it in style! I noticed that Z's hair is shorter... lots of firsts going on for him, too! How exciting!

And I love the picture of him lounging with his foot propped on the DVD player (or laptop?). So cute!

Good luck with things and the rest of your vacays! *B

So busy, it sounds like you had a great time. I do not think I would be brave enough to take Payton on that long of a road trip, so I give you a lot of credit. Let me know if I can help with the packing or anything else.

Amy,

Oh it makes me so jelouse to see your bear lake pictures... Matt's family also goes every year and always has, so i have been able to partake of the experience the past five years. I love going and am so sad to miss it this july because of the new baby. Going and getting Raspberry shakes is always our favorite :) Good luck with moving and your other trips!
