Easter in San Diego

While I understand Easter feels like it was eons ago...it still hasn't made its way to my bloggity blog. So here goes.

For Easter we headed out to San Diego. We were toying with the idea for quite some time...and then found out Scot's grandparents were going to be visiting & we thought it was the perfect timing to see both grandparents & great-grandparents. I don't think they'd ever met Olivia!

We got in late Thursday night/early Friday morning. Scot is one of those leave at 6 pm, get there at 1 am kind of drivers. I don't love it, but it does reduce the kid nuisance factor as they both sleep a large majority of the drive. So we do it. But we also pay for it the rest of the weekend as it wears us all out. If only my kids were good sleepers when we travel. I was expecting the hiccups with Olivia, but even Zack was an issue this time. man. I was t.i.r.e.d.

But we had fun & sometimes that is the price of fun.

Here is the trip in photos.
Zack learned the secrets to grammy's famous pancakes. I think we ate these every morning. yum.
lots of time at the park...
lots...
and lots...

a trip for treats...can you tell zack chose which cone he wanted? hehe.
and of course the beach. good even when it is cold.
and the Easter bunny did find its way to us in San Diego, but in all my Easter pics Livs has a naked bum...she developed a terrible rash while we were there & I thought I'd spare you the details!

Thanks grammy & grandpa for a good time as always.

Happy Easter!

Our morning started off bright & early at 6 am. Scoobs' normal arise & shine hour {lucky me...we have a morning person}. I thought I heard him getting up & promptly tried to begin arousing Scot from his slumber {he is not so much a morning person}. 10 minutes later there was still no sign of Scoob so I thought maybe he was sleeping in {he'd been up very late the night before}...until we heard a loud bang. We jumped up to see what he was into, knowing that of course it was his Easter basket goodies. What a stink! He NEVER goes through the family room to get to our room...except Easter morning. He was thrilled with his little basket of goodies {thank you Target $1 section}.
We then headed off to church. I love 9 am church. Really. It's fantastic...with the exception that on this day we did not get our "usual" padded bench. That dang choir that was there to serenade us with it's beauty was also early & had managed to save every pew for their adoring fans {family} & left this chickee on a hard seat...8 months pregs with a 2-year-old racing cars along the metal chairs. awesome. I think he did provide some great entertainment. For those around us...my apologies. Seriously, I was ticked & actually a tad teary over it & decided there should be a new rule: If you are 7 months pregs or more you automatically get a bench seat. No questions asked. 3 hours is a long time of sitting.
Saturday night while Scot & I were on our date night he informed me that I was a lame Easter mom...and alas, it is true this year. For whatever reason, I completely missed the ball on any & all Easter festivities for the week. Blame it on the pregnancy. Blame it on the abysmal sleep habits of a certain 2-year-old. Blame it on sheer lameness, but I missed the boat. Scot insisted that we dye eggs...which is one tradition I probably would have skipped even if I was on the ball {we never did this growing up}. So we stopped at our beloved Target on our way home to pick up a Kung Fu Panda egg dying kit. And what this has to do with the resurrection of the Savior...I'm not certain. I told Scot that this was his baby...and he & Scoob were off. All I did was boil the eggs {which I had to look up how to online...lame}.
After naps & egg dying it was off to the family Easter dinner & egg hunt. Surprisingly, all the granddaughters showed up in the same color blue. Fancy that. And the boys...well the boys just showed up.
PS -- Lucy is missing due to a after church fit of sorts. I suppose 2 pm church for a 3-year-old is sometimes too much to handle. We love you goose & completely understand.
Scoob totally got it this year & made a haul of eggs with "tweets" inside. sweet. They will keep me company all week long.
Then it was time for the adult egg hunt. Always a big competition to be had for the big money egg. I knew I would be at a disadvantage, but I was ready to sacrifice & you know...throw my weight around. On your mark...Get Set...Wait...what?
Just the guys are doing the searching this year? Oh crap. {mind you...I still found Scot's egg for him}. What can I say, I have a hard time sitting on the sidelines.
The big money egg came down to these two losers & while Kev tried to pull a switch-a-roo Ryan walked away victoriously.
And while we realize this holiday isn't Christmas...Nana always has a little gift for the kiddos. Thanks mom!

Rainy Days...

Today was darn near perfect for my liking {with the exception of being so uncomfortably pregs}. First, it was cold. Second, it was raining. And that rainbow? Right outside my front door...literally. And we could see the other end too.
How awesome is that? On top of the fabulous weather there was lots of fun {shopping} to be had & work to be done, I still got a nap & a babysitter was hired for the evening! yeah. A perfect Saturday in my books.

{Scoob 1 & Scoob 2...two peas in a pod}

Our neighborhood Easter egg hunt took place in the trunk of a minivan due to the rain {boo} but Scoobs was delighted all the same...although I'm not certain what was more exciting...the treats in the eggs or the use of an umbrella. Regardless, they were both thoroughly enjoyed.

Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday was filled with all the usual...treats in your basket, hunting for eggs, delicious dinner, wonderful sacrament talks & strawberry shortcake to top it all off. We still didn't get a picture of all of us in our Sunday best...something about 8:30 am church and a 1-year-old...go figure.
I did manage to snap one of Zack while at church...walking the halls, which in this case was the sidewalk. He is at the worst age for church right now. Too young for nursery & too old to be held. He lasted all of 5 minutes in Relief Society, which means, we didn't even hear the opening song or prayer. Zack was intent on another baby's bottle & thus had to hit the streets. Lucky for us it was a nice day out!

We tried pictures again several hours after church & a good nap...still a no-go. By the time we got to taking one of Scot & Zack you can see Zack was no longer with us. It probably didn't help that my sister was filling eggs on the other side of the camera...Zack definitely knew there were treats to be had & he was not going to give us the money shot we were looking for.

About the bunny ears...those were really in Zack's bag, but since he wasn't up to wearing them I figured I best do it for him. I think they look better on me than him anyway & since they can only be worn twice a year (halloween too) I figured why not?

After a delicious dinner, we had to work it off with an Easter egg hunt. Zack did great...by this point he had it all figured out & was even trying to steal eggs from his cousin Lucy. As you might have guessed, that did not go over too well.

After the kids had their fun, it was time for the adult hunt...this one involving money. In case you weren't aware, we are slightly competitive & I even had to change my shoes for the race off. 7 of us had to hunt for 7 eggs...one for each. We weren't allowed to open them until the end, when my dad held up another egg that we could trade for. Since his egg was "golden" I decided to swap...good choice, I made $20 as opposed to $5. A few other trades were made by Ryan Bennett (who ended up with my original $5) and Scot, who traded the $100 egg for $20...oops...that was my bad, because I told him to. In the end we all opened our eggs & my dad still held the $100...so into a pot all the eggs went & we all drew, where Lindsey ended up with the hot hand. For the record though (see??? a little competitive here!)...I did find the $100 egg...I actually found 3 of the 7 eggs, but had to give 2 away...1 to Scot (the $100) and another to Julie ($1). I definitely tried negotiating for it back but...better luck next year! Thanks mom & dad...

Egg Hunting & a Visit to the Farm

Doesn't Zack make the cutest bunny? Are you feeling the urge to take a bite out of those squishy little cheeks? Don't worry...I feel the same.

Today Zack participated in his very first Easter egg hunt & while I didn't think he'd even have a clue, he actually caught on quite quickly. Regardless, I was just happy that this Easter has already surpassed last year's nightmare...at least he's got pictures to prove he celebrated Easter this year.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that he made the connection between eggs & candy. Kind of a no brainer if you ask me. And while he didn't get the most eggs, he was quite content with his 4 & the treats that were found within them.
All the kids lined up...Zack had already picked up a few & didn't move from that spot during the entire hunt. That made it very easy for me to keep track of him...and he was even in the shade. A win-win.
Zack thought Jacob was very funny with his basket on his head...
I'm sure that will be Zack next year.

Trying to "crack" the egg.

Okay...we really didn't visit a "farm" but this was awfully close & will thus be categorized as one. Right next to the park were horses...I have no idea whose they are but of course all the kids had to check them out. Zack was a little scared of the big, hairy head with flies buzzing around it & nostrils that kept blowing hot air at him, but I like any good parent shoved Zack right up next to it so that he could pet it. He's probably having nightmares about it as we speak.
