JV Invitational

Yesterday found my sitting in a packed gym that smelled like rotten fish from 10:30 - 5:30. Oh joy. It was hot, uncomfortable & swarming with sweating HS boys. It was Kevin's JV Invitational Meet. The end all be all meet for him of the season. As opposed to competing as a team to win, each wrestler was competing by themselves in order to win their individual weight class. Kevin's had his eyes set on this all season long. And while I didn't intend on being there from start to finish, once I was there, I was hooked. Rotten fish smell or not.

I missed his first match, but he won...I think with a pin. He's won every JV match he's wrestled this year...and yesterday he continued in that fashion. We were all excited when he made it to the semi-final round. Only 2 more matches to go.

In the semis he was to wrestle a guy from a school in Tempe & he was supposedly good, real good. Needless to say, we were all a little nervous for Kev. And looking back, I'm not sure why. Kevin had proven himself all season & did so again in the semi round. He dominated the match, walked away with a victory & was headed to the championship.

I don't know who was more excited Kevin...or my dad. It is so funny to watch my dad watch Kevin. My dad wrestled in HS & at the University of Utah...and I suppose that means he was good. Anyway, he totally lives vicariously through Kevin when it comes to wrestling. He lives & dies it with him...reliving his own glory days I suppose.
Unfortunately Kevin came up short in the championship match. It was apparent that the other wrestler had a lot more experience than Kevin, but he still wrestled so well against him. There was talk that his opponent was really a varsity wrestler...or that the ref mixed up the score, yadda, yadda, yadda regardless, it didn't work out for Kevin & Kev knew he had lost. When I called him last night {after he'd simmered down a bit} he said he was a little banged up...his knees & shoulders were sore, but the best part was when he remarked that it was probably a good thing he lost...now he's got something to motivate him over the off-season. I couldn't agree more.

We are so proud of Kev too!! And I don't know how but we never even got word about this big match. I've been depending on the law firm communication line and it failed me this time! We are the losers of the fam!

Amy,

Crazy, I guess my little brother wrestled in the same tournament too. He took 3rd, I wish I could have seen him. I love wrestling!
