We arrived in Newport safe & sound & glad to be here! The weather is of course fabulous & the company just as nice. We made it through church on Sunday & managed to keep the kids occupied & not at the beach. That is a feat!!!
This morning all the grandkids (we're up to 8 now) were ramped up for a bike ride to the donut shop...they of course we're up bright & early & we headed out.

Zack obviously didn't realize the treat he was in for...but was pleased with the surprise.

He also lived up to his maniac ways...exploring any nook & cranny. At one point he was literally laying on his stomach to try & grab a penny in a hole by a nasty newspaper stand. He goes 90 miles an hour 24/7. It reached a head though when he knocked over a bike & it landed on him. I didn't think too much of it (really, this happens quite frequently with him), but quickly went to grab the bike off him & dust him off to send him on his way. My mom got their before me & there was blood. ugh. I looked at his head first. No blood there. His hand however? gushing.

I mean really -- the picture doesn't even do it justice! He was all up in arms (rightfully so) & we were trying to decide if he needed stitches, etc. oh joy...it is day one of fun in the sun, sand & water. While discussing, Zack is inconsolable. Scot heads home on his bike to bring back the car to pick Z & I up. While waiting we are still undecided on the stitches. Scot pulled up & right behind him was an ambulance. So as we were loading Z, my aunt flagged down the EMT's to come look at Zack's thumb. They did a quick assessment & determined he didn't need stitches - threw on a band-aid & sent us on our way. They were super nice & I'm glad I didn't have to sit at Hogue Hospital to find out he didn't need anything other than a clean & a band-aid.
We were still a bit worried about the saltwater & sand -- it is seriously an icky, icky cut & we don't want it to get infected. My uncle had another genius idea (something he learned long ago in an EMT class) in order to keep the water out he said to put a condom over his thumb & tape it up. After some slight hesitation, I was game. Sooo, since we didn't have any on hand & I wasn't about to ask around we headed to the Albertson's on our way home.
Picture this, we are checking out of the Albertson's Zack is screaming with a bloody thumb. We have cotton balls, band-aids, Tylenol, antiseptic spray AND condoms. I really had the urge to double check with Scot that they were extra small ones in front of the cashier. You'd be proud to know I held my tongue.

Feel free to zoom in & see what Zack is playing with...oh man!!!
After all the drama to begin the day Zack was a trooper & it didn't even bother him a bit. It is bruised, bloody (anytime he knocks it) and his nail will probably fall off, but we are good.

He even managed to take this pic tonight!
Cute side note...my niece Emma loves Zack to death. All these little girls were all worried about him. So when we got home from the Donut Shop Emma asked my sister how Zacky was doing. Linds said he would be fine & Emma was relieved. She said, "Oh good mom, because when we were at the Pier we all went & said a prayer for him so that he would get better. I don't want Zacky to be hurt." awww! Love that girl!!!
